In our quest for a great meal, we have no qualms visiting and reviewing the ever-growing number of well known, national and local, chain restaurants entering the Rio Grande Valley. We welcome these eateries and know that thanks to them, we’re experiencing more and more diversity through the introduction of different foods and restaurant concepts.

What better way to get a taste for the Mediterranean culture than through local restaurant chains like Dimassi’s. Consider that unless you travel out of the valley, or live in a big city, where you’ll find myriad options of “mom and pop” restaurants offering these “ethnic” cuisines, how will you ever be exposed to these incredible and delicious foods?

We were excited and looking forward to a memorable treat. Instead we found a buffet of ‘lukewarm and mediocre’ Mediterranean food - at best. This cuisine encompasses Middle Eastern foods, which include the culinary traditions from; Greece, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine, and Egypt. In sum, a combination and mixture of meats and spices that capture a unique taste and one-of-a-kind flavor experience.  What they served instead was a disappointing buffet spread that was compromised because of quality control – hence the poor review and a one star rating.

Our recommendation to Dimassi’s is simple; If you’re going to venture into this region, bring your A-game to work. It makes no sense to gamble your money and our hard-earned cash, entering smaller markets like the RGV, if you’re going to sacrifice quality. We’ve traveled to your restaurants in Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio and our experience confirms our harsh review. In those “big city” markets, we enjoyed a superior level of food and service that should equally exist here at home. There’s no reason why customers in the valley should settle for anything less than what you serve others elsewhere. Period.

So, unless you raise-the-bar, we're never going back to Dimassi’s, and though the restaurant was clean and the service friendly – the “food” was ultimately found wanting.
